Our fundraising campaign will help purchase upgraded furnishings and equipment that are aesthetically appealing and that will enhance the overall quality of the new library.

There are many levels of giving. As a 501(c)(3) organization, all donations are tax deductible and donors will be provided with receipts. Please help us build a state of the art library for the citizens of Seabrook and the surrounding area. Your gift will make a lasting contribution to this community!

History of Evelyn Meador Library – Seabrook, Texas

The Friends group was founded in 1985 by a small group of interested Seabrook citizens. The initial size of the library was to have been 4,500 square feet. However, the Friends wanted a larger library and meeting room for community use and raised the additional funds needed through book sales, donations and a Buy-a-Brick program. Through their efforts the library was expanded to 7,217 square feet. The President of the Friends at the time of the library opening was Jim Hargrove.

After Hurricane Ike in 2008, the original building was closed due to damage. Plans for a new library were already under way and with funding assistance from the City of Seabrook, a new state-of-the-art facility was completed in 2011. The new Evelyn Meador Library reopened on June 28th, 2011, two days after the 23rd anniversary of the original opening in 1988. The current building was designed and built to be environmentally green and was awarded LEED Gold certification in April, 2012. The Evelyn Meador Branch Library was the first Harris County owned facility to be awarded this distinction.

History of the Friends of Evelyn Meador

The Friends of Evelyn Meador work with Harris County and the City of Seabrook to make our library a wonderful resource for our coastal community. Our fundraising efforts help purchase furnishings, materials and equipment as well as support the year-round Children’s Programs.

There are many levels of giving. As a 501(c)(3) organization, all donations are tax deductible and donors will be provided with a receipt. Donations of gently used books, DVD’s and CD’s are also a good way to support our program (as well as volunteering)!
