GivingTuesday – November 29, 2022

GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement. The event was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Since then, it has grown into a year-round global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity. Everyone has something to contribute!

What are you passionate about? If it’s Evelyn Meador Library, you’re in the right place. The library benefits greatly from Friends donations. The Friends depend largely on membership dues, book sales, and financial donations. Our fundraising efforts help support library programs and offerings that enhance the community in which we serve. As a 501(c)(3) organization, all donations are tax deductible! Here are a few convenient options to consider:

  • Join the Friends of Evelyn Meador Library. Here are just a few of the programs and events that the Friends recently supported: Konradi Memorial Herb Garden, Outdoor Learning Exploration Center groundbreaking, Little Free Library (Remodel), Summer Reading Program, Evelyn Meador Library’s 33rd Birthday Celebration, Petting Zoo, Grand Opening of StoryWalk® and Garden Tool Library, and many more!
  • Link your Kroger Card to the Kroger Community Rewards Program. Sign in with your Kroger account information or create a new account (a digital account is required to activate this feature). Find your Organization – search for “FRIENDS OF THE EVELYN MEADOR LIBRARY”, organization number AX730. Select and enroll. It’s that simple! Purchases will not count towards rewards until after you have registered your Kroger Plus card and linked it to the Friends account.
  • Register with Amazon Smile. Every time you make an eligible Amazon purchase, Amazon will donate 0.5% to the Friends of Evelyn Meador Library! Sign in using your existing Amazon account or register for an account. Under “Pick your own charitable organization” search for “Friends of the Evelyn M Meador Community Library”. Click “Select” and you’re done! You should get an email confirming your Amazon Smile registration.
  • Donate on the secure Network for Good web site. You’ll find it to be an easy, no fuss donation experience! A receipt will be sent to your registered email address.
  • If your employer uses the Benevity online donation platform, search for “FRIENDS OF THE EVELYN M MEADOR COMMUNITY LIBRARY”. Don’t forget to check for a company match!
  • Volunteer in the Friends Bookstore. Contact our Friends Bookstore Coordinator at KLTaylor352@gmail.com.

National Library Week is April 3–9!

Help Support the 2022 Summer Reading Program!

“Oceans of Possibilities” is the theme of the HCPL 2022 Summer Reading Program

While the library offers many programs throughout the year, none is more anticipated than the annual Summer Reading Program. You can help the Harris County Friends of the Library support Harris County Public Library’s Summer Reading Program by donating during National Library Week, April 3-9. As one of our Kingwood Library customers says: “Love how there are so many opportunities for the kids when it comes to programming.”

You can donate three ways:

  1. Text YOURFRIEND to 44-321
  2. Go to our website hcfol.org
  3. Send a check made out to HCFOL to
    Harris County Public Library
    HCFOL
    5749 South Loop East
    Houston, TX 77033

Remember, HCFOL supports programs for the entire Harris County library system, including Evelyn Meador Library. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Show your library some love – February is National Library Lover’s Month!

National Library Lover’s Month in February is dedicated to the people who love libraries. Libraries provide a place for us to discover great books and learn about history. They help us with homework, research papers, and science projects. They provide a quiet space to study and learn. But libraries do so much more:

  • Libraries provide educational entertainment for preschoolers, like story time.
  • Libraries provide communities for meeting space for celebrations, meetings, socials, fundraisers, and classes.
  • Libraries provide resources for researching family and community history.
  • Libraries lend other media like movies and music that can be enjoyed at home.
  • Libraries offer digital resources, like our fabulous Maker Space, for the entire community to use.
  • Libraries provide rotating art displays give local artists exposure to the community.

Here are a few ways that you can celebrate National Library Lover’s Month:
