On December 18th, the Friends of Evelyn Meador Board of Directors hosted a Holiday Reception to recognize Friends and Library volunteers for their support throughout the year. It’s always a great time to see old friends, meet new ones and catch up on life’s happenings. We had a great turnout and lots of goodies to eat. Thanks to Kathy Viscariello and Angelo’s Restaurant for the wonderful Italian food!

Local artist James Phillips has a unique talent: he transforms fallen trees into original works of art. James generously donated the Tree of Honor that you see in the Evelyn Meador Library in Seabrook, Texas. The Friends use the Tree of Honor to recognize volunteers and members of the community that support the Library through donations and volunteering. It’s carved from a single piece of oak! It is a special, one of a kind piece and we are very proud to call it our own. Drop by the Library and take a look at this wonderful work of art! Santa Claus is coming to town – Evelyn Meador Library, to be exact!

What a beautiful day it was! The Friends shared a booth with Harris County Public Library, hosted by Evelyn Meador Library in Seabrook. The Friends hosted a children’s book sale to raise funds for library programs. Enjoy the photos!

Come visit the Harris County library booth tomorrow at the Seabrook Celebration this Saturday at Meador Park! Learn more about the Friends of Evelyn Meador Library and how you can get involved. While you’re visiting, pick up a few used books; they make wonderful gifts!

Friends of Libraries groups have their very own national week of celebration! United for Libraries will coordinate the 12th annual National Friends of Libraries Week Oct. 15-21, 2017. The celebration offers a two-fold opportunity to celebrate Friends. Use the time to creatively promote your group in the community, to raise awareness, and to promote membership. This is also an excellent opportunity for your library and Board of Trustees to recognize the Friends for their help and support of the library.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of long time Friends Board Member Anna Dewald on August 11, 2017. Anna was born in Quinlan, Texas on November 22, 1926 to Annie Lois Smalley Kent and Bartis William Kent. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas and her Masters and Doctorate of Education degree from the University of Houston. She served as Dean of the College of Education at the University of St. Thomas in Houston for over 27 years. At her retirement she received the title of Dean Emeritus. Anna was an active member of Seabrook United Methodist Church and she served on the Board of the Evelyn Meador Library in Seabrook. Anna was a proud member of Lakewood Yacht Club, the Women Who Wine charitable organization, and the Ladies Association at Lakewood, of which she was a past president. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Dr. Anna K. Dewald Scholarship Fund sponsored by Kappa Delta Pi honor society in education at the University of St. Thomas in Houston.

We were blessed to celebrate her 90th Birthday with many Board members on May 22, 2017. It was a wonderful opportunity to honor her. She will truly be missed.
